Getting Ready......

As Ethan gets ready to leave for his Italy adventure, many have asked, "Is Ethan going to have a blog?"     Ethan is planning on posting when he can, and we will fill in the blanks....so it will be a joint/family effort.

To start, here are some of the basics:

  • Ethan will be leaving on September 13th, yes Friday the 13th, and will be away until late June.
  • He will be living in Carpi, Italy (not to be confused with Capri).  Carpi is a small city of 60,000 in north central Italy, 10-15 minutes north of Modena, 45 minutes northwest of Bologna, and about an hour south of Verona.
  • He will be living with a host family:  Luigi (dad), Antonella (mom), Caterina (13 year old sister), and Simone (10 year old brother).  He will also be surrounded by lots of aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins who also live in Carpi.
  • His new home will be in downtown Carpi in an apartment so he will have easy access to the city, his high school, and soccer.
  • His apartment overlooks the Carpi professional soccer stadium.  No joke.  He can sit in his room and watch Carpi FC (the city's professional team who was just promoted to Serie B).
  • Ethan arrives on Saturday the 14th and will start school on Monday the 16th.   He will be a third year student at the Italian public high school, Liceo Scientifico Manfredo Fanti, and will be taking all of his classes in Italian.  It looks like he will be on the humanities track so less science and math, and more art history, history, and languages (including French, English, and Latin).
  • He will start training with Carpi's U17 academy team the first week he arrives.  Chances are, he won't stay there given that this team competes in the most competitive "national" league in Italy.  More likely, he will end up with one of two other clubs in the area that compete at the regional or provincial level.
So, we hope we get enough scoop to make the blog worth while!  Just about 2 weeks until he departs.....
